Social networking in a Google universe.

Good news for “Tweeters” and Facebook addicts that wish to drive more eyeballs to their daily activities and updates. Google has heard your wishes and as of Monday December 7th has entered into the social media space. The search giant has tapped into the growing popularity of social networking by integrating tweets and Facebook updates into its search results. The new feature, called “real-time search” was rolled out to enable Google users to screen for the web’s freshest content.

The new feature allows users to view results that have been sorted by when they were posted online, which puts more focus on the newest, real time, web content such as news articles, blog posts and Wikipedia updates and entries.

Google states that the only way for end users to see their Facebook updates appear in Google search results is if the user takes the leap to change their privacy settings from private to public.

This is breaking news for those of us that use Twitter and Facebook as a platform for business development and branding. The introduction of real time search provides a larger pedestal to announce the most current news. From job opportunities and promotions, to providing general information, Companies can now reach their respective communities on the scale we all wished we could.
